Organist - Pianist

Position Description

Germonds Presbyterian Church, a 200-member suburban PC(USA) congregation in NY’s Hudson Valley, seeks a part-time organist/pianist to perform music during worship services and accompany the congregation and choirs.

The Organist/Pianist plans, prepares, and plays service music appropriate to weekly worship and holiday services; accompanies congregation, choirs, and special music offerings during services; accompanies the adult choir during scheduled weekly evening choir practices under direction of the Music Director; and identifies and reports on needs for proper maintenance of the organ and piano.  Total commitment is for approximately 68 events annually.  In the occasional absence of the Music Director, the organist/pianist may occasionally be called upon to direct the choir.  When available (and for additional compensation), the Organist/Pianist may also be requested to prepare and play for weddings, funerals, and non-recurring special services.

The ideal candidate will be able to play a diverse repertoire of sacred music on both an Allen Renaissance organ and on piano proficiently, and at the direction of the Music Director.  Some experience in choir direction is expected.  An aptitude for sight-reading would be helpful. As a member of our professional worship team, the candidate should be able to work supportively with our volunteer choirs, and be committed to continued professional and musical growth.

Salary is $15,000 with annual time off equal to four rehearsals and four services.  Some continuing education funds available, as are monies for new music. Germonds Presbyterian Church is an equal opportunity employer.
