Our History: A Legacy of Faith, Love, and Community
Since 1860, Germonds Presbyterian Church has been a place of faith, fellowship, and service, beginning as a spiritual home for German immigrant families in New City, New York. Throughout its history, our church has remained committed to sharing God's love not only within our congregation but throughout the wider community. From advocating for the inclusion and dignity of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to supporting local organizations, including the Center for Safety and Change since the 1970s, Germonds has sought to put faith into action. In September 2010, we proudly celebrated 150 years of worship, service, and community, rededicating ourselves to the mission that has guided us for generations. Today, as part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), we continue to build on this meaningful legacy, welcoming all who seek a place to grow in faith, find connection, and experience the warmth of a caring community. Our history is more than the story of a building; it is the story of the people, compassion, and enduring faith that continue to make Germonds Presbyterian Church a home for all.

The PC-USA functions as a democracy, represented by regional bodies made up of local representatives. Our local body, or presbytery, is called Hudson River Presbytery.
Our regional body is called the Synod of the Northeast.
Our National body is called the General Assembly and meets every two years to discuss and vote on current issues relating to beliefs, practice, and governance.
Within the local church, representatives are elected from and by the congregation to serve as the governing board called the Session.
